Alexa Brabec delivered another historic performance, climbing to the top of the podium today in the Women’s Individual Mass Start Normal Hill HS109/5km in Seefeld, Austria–earning her first World Cup victory.
Every day at the Seefeld Triple brings a new challenge with three different events over the course of the weekend. Today’s mass start delivered high drama and proved the U.S women are on the rise. The competition opened with the cross-country ski race, setting the start order for the jumping. Brabec was third after the skiing and then jumped her way to first. It was a spectacular moment as the entire field celebrated her first World Cup win.
After celebrating with her team, Brabec shared with us, “Today was really cool to win with my parents at the event to cheer me on and see me win for the first time. It’s overwhelming, but feels really good.”
Not to be overlooked by Brabec’s win, teammate Annika Malacinski secured a personal best 6th place finish as well. If one were to time exactly when to peak, these women have nailed that formula. The Seefeld Triple is one of the pinnacle events of the World Cup season. Just out of the top 10 was Tara Geraghty Moats, showing the potential for a powerhouse U.S. team with her 11th place finish.
Malacinski reflected on the significance of both Brabec’s win and her own 6th place finish, “We have worked so hard to get to this point. I am thrilled with my results today, and so glad to celebrate my personal best and Alexa’s win with all the women of Nordic Combined. This is a huge statement for the U.S. women and the sport of Nordic Combined.”
